THE FINAL BODY OF WORK - VIETNAM NOODLE HOUSE (Individual Assignment)
Course: Photography 101
Grade: High Distinction
Artist statement
This photobook is dedicated to the memory when I worked part-time at Vietnam Noodle House restaurant in Melbourne CBD during my exchange year in Australia.
Because all the staffs are students, I captured the dynamic energy when we were together. Every moment is candid and moody.
The series was mainly shot in the day when we held a farewell party to me and another staff. That was a precious vacation that everyone felt comfortable with my camera around. Some would smile and some would pretend that the camera was not around, instead of hiding from it.
I then kept revisiting the restaurant the following days and shot and shot, even when it was raining.
The light shooting condition was always dark, so my ISO was high, creating grainy photographs. To dramatize the reminiscence of the series, I added more grains and contrast between light and dark areas to the pictures.
The result was this film-like series.
